Glutamine – Preserve Your Muscles

Glutamine, also known as L-glutamine, is one of the most important amino acids. It belongs to the group of non-essential amino acids, which means that the body can produce glutamine on its own. Considering the many metabolic processes in which glutamine is actively involved, its high significance is not surprising. The highest concentration of glutamine is found in muscle cells. During intense physical stress, the body’s glutamine demand increases, which can quickly lead to shortages. This is why glutamine has been classified as “conditionally essential” in training research. At a certain point, supplementing with glutamine may become necessary to support the body from the outside.

Deficiencies or depletion of glutamine in the muscles can occur due to intense training sessions or poor/insufficient nutrition. Therefore, it is especially important to supply the body with enough amino acids during and especially after intense workouts. Otherwise, the body may begin to draw amino acids from muscle tissue, which would result in muscle breakdown. Glutamine can counteract this process. It prevents muscle loss and supports protein synthesis — the key process that triggers muscle growth.

The optimal time to take glutamine is after training, as it supports muscle maintenance processes in the body. During very intense training phases, it can also be helpful to supplement glutamine in the morning after waking up and in the evening before going to bed — however, the amount of 10 grams per dose should not be exceeded. Glutamine is not only suitable for strength athletes; endurance athletes can also improve recovery by taking glutamine after training.

IronMaxx offers glutamine in its purest form with Glutamine Pro Powder. This makes it ideal for a calorie-reduced diet, as it is completely free of carbohydrates and fats. Another IronMaxx product with an extremely high glutamine content is IronMaxx BCAAs + Glutamine, available in both capsule and powder form.
